Cookie notice
This site is deliberately plain. It carries no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels and no embedded social widgets. One value is stored in your browser, and this page explains precisely what it is and how to remove it.
The one value that is stored
When the small banner appears at the bottom of the screen and you choose either option, a single entry is written into your browser's local storage recording that choice. It contains a short word and nothing else. It holds no name, no number, no identifier and nothing that could be connected to you.
Its only purpose is to stop the banner appearing on every page you open. It is read by this site alone, it is never transmitted anywhere, and it cannot be seen by any other site you visit, because browser storage is separated by site.
What is deliberately absent
There is no analytics on these pages. Visits are not counted, journeys through the site are not recorded, and no report of behaviour is produced or read by anyone. There is no advertising network, no remarketing tag and no pixel belonging to a social platform.
There are also no embedded players, no comment systems and no third-party fonts loaded from elsewhere, all of which commonly introduce tracking without the reader realising. The absence of these things is the reason the pages load quickly and the reason this notice is short.
Technical necessities
The web server that delivers these pages keeps ordinary short-lived records of requests, as every web server must in order to function and to defend itself against abuse. Those records are not used to build any picture of a visitor and are overwritten in the normal course of operation.
If you send a message through the contact form, a temporary session value may be used while the page is open, purely to keep the form working correctly and to prevent automated abuse. It disappears when you close the tab and is never used for any other purpose.
Declining and what changes
Declining in the banner is a real choice with real effect, because there is nothing to switch off beyond the banner itself. Every page, guide and form works identically whether you accept or decline. Nothing is withheld, nothing is degraded and nothing else is stored either way.
If you decline, the record of that decision is itself the single stored value, which is the only way to avoid asking you the same question repeatedly. This is a small irony of banners generally and it is worth stating plainly rather than hiding.
Removing the stored value
Clearing site data for this address in your browser settings removes the value immediately. In most browsers this sits under privacy or site settings, with an option to clear data for one site rather than all of them. Using a private window has the same effect, since storage is discarded when the window closes.
Once removed, the banner will appear again on your next visit, because there is nothing left to record the earlier choice. You can change your answer as often as you like and no history of previous answers is kept anywhere.
Browser controls worth knowing
Every modern browser lets you block storage entirely, block it for particular sites, or clear everything when you close it. Blocking storage for this site will leave the banner appearing on each visit, which is mildly annoying but changes nothing else about how the pages behave.
If you use a tracker-blocking extension, it will find nothing to block here. That is intentional. The site is built so that a reader who cares about privacy does not have to trust a statement, because there is very little to trust in the first place.
Questions about this notice
Anything unclear on this page can be asked about by telephone during opening hours or through the contact form, and will be answered by the person who runs the site rather than by a support desk. Plain questions get plain answers.
If this notice ever changes, the change will be described here in the same plain terms rather than absorbed into a longer document. Any change that affected what is stored would also bring the banner back, so you would be asked again rather than quietly carried over.
